What an access control system does in year one is not what you will need it to do in year eight. A system that can evolve protects the value of what you already own; a static one becomes harder and more expensive to sustain.

Globally, property maintenance and facility operations spending is projected to grow to over US$145 billion by 2034, reflecting rising complexity, compliance pressures, and increased exposure to operational costs. AI systems can protect properties, automate access, and optimise building management.

Paxton’s wireless access-controlled door handle is engineered to withstand the most demanding environments, while maintaining a sleek, contemporary design. It includes a new Privacy Button, and offers up to 55 000 operations on a single set of batteries.

Cloud-based, AI-powered surveillance monitoring platform cuts operator alert fatigue and response times, and becomes DeepAlert's primary monitoring platform for security companies and control rooms worldwide.

XPass Q2 is an intelligent QR and RFID reader; it reads roughly 30 people per minute at 5 to 15 centimetres, decodes a QR code as small as one centimetre, and performs in low light.

Physical barriers matter, but a site is not secure just because the gate is strong or the container is locked. True security requires verifying every movement, tracing handovers, making exceptions visible, and allowing intervention before minor issues become major losses.

Perimeter security is no longer just a fence or wall; effective security starts at the electric fence and extends to the control room. SMART Security Solutions asked Shaun Williamson for insights into the perimeter security challenges estates face.
